 Meet Vittorio D’Orsi

Mike And Cathy Scott

Vittorio, affectionately known as “Vit” to his friends. Vittorio is the owner and manager of Seniors Helping Seniors Medway. We asked Vittorio to share his story, and here’s what he would like you to know about his background, passions, and commitment to providing exceptional home care.

Early Life and Education

He was raised in Merseyside in the 70’s as the second youngest of five siblings in a bustling Italian family from Napoli. His upbringing was a mix of traditional Roman Catholic values and the lively spirit of Italian culture. He attended West Park High Secondary School,  to GCSE level, and then completed an apprenticeship in building. Vittorio graduated Police Training college in the early 2000s.

Family

Vittorio is incredibly proud of his two adult children. His son, Robbie, 22, has just graduated with a psychology degree from the University of Liverpool. His daughter, Lauren, 19, is about to start her journey at the University of York to study Economics.

Career

In 1999, Vittorio moved to Medway to help his previous employer set up a new manufacturing site on Medway City Estate, Rochester. What was meant to be a short stint turned into a long-term commitment. Vittorio has called Medway home for 25 years!  In 2000s he changed tact and embarked on a career in law enforcement, he graduated from Police Training College and then dedicated 25 years to public service, retiring in 2024.

Influences and Interests

Growing up, money was tight. His father worked at Pilkington’s for 33 years, a period marked by union strikes that exacerbated the family’s financial struggles. Despite these challenges, Vittorio’s childhood was rich with Italian cultural influences and strong family values. Annual trips to Italy were a cherished tradition, alternating between siblings each year. One of the highlights of his childhood was crushing grapes with his father to produce the family’s fine Italian wines, a tradition that made all five siblings popular amongst friends.

His mother worked on a farm, Vittorio has fond memories of helping her in the fields. This experience instilled in him a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for family and community.

Keen on most sports he was also an ok footballer winning awards in primary school and later playing rugby union well into his thirties.

As a long-suffering Everton FC supporter, he knows the true meaning of patience and loyalty—traits that have served him well both on and off the field.

Inspiration for Seniors Helping Seniors

Vittorio’s decision to start a Seniors Helping Seniors business was deeply personal. Five years ago, his father passed away from Cardiovascular Dementia and Lewy Body Dementia. Witnessing the dedication of his father’s caregivers left a profound impact. He admired their passion but also recognised the immense pressure they were under, often told to leave mid service to rush elsewhere.

The Seniors Helping Seniors care model resonated with Vittorio because it emphasises compassionate, friendly care – something he felt his father had missed.

This business allows Vittorio to provide high-quality, personalised care to the elderly, fostering a sense of community and connection, this endeavour brings immense satisfaction and a spiritual connection to his father’s memory.

Vittorio’s life experiences—from his humble beginnings and strong family ties to his extensive career in public service – have shaped him into a positive and community-oriented individual. Through Seniors Helping Seniors Medway, he aims to give back and make a significant impact on the lives of the elderly in his community, honouring his father’s legacy and fulfilling his own calling to serve. Plus, it gives him a break from the emotional rollercoaster of supporting Everton FC!

Vittorio helps to run a local Pool club which is frequented by families and elderly. He says “I love playing pool! I also run and compete in marathons. I go to the gym, do yoga and pilates and I love reading crime/psychological thrillers.”

Finally, we recommend asking Vittorio about his experiences at Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral and King Charles II’s coronation. Representing the nation at those times was a feeling he will never forget. Other high-profile events he attended was the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral and the wedding of the Prince and Princess of Wales, the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan.Vittorio adds, “Helping to manage protests in central London taught me humility and teamwork. I saw raw emotions up close while I was policing. While I am proud of my career to date, this next chapter is set to be the most thrilling yet.”

"We have been using the services of Seniors Helping Seniors for over 4 years and have been really pleased with the care and attention the team have always given to Mum. Nothing has ever been too much trouble and the team have often gone above and beyond to ensure that Mum was comfortable in her own home for as long as possible.

They often shared lots of laughs and fun times as well as caring for her emotional and physical needs and it always left us reassured that she was in the best of hands.

They are a very flexible team and always willing to help out when additional support was required putting the needs of Mum first. A special thanks to Eileen and Simone who have been on the journey with Mum and become more than a companion to her, they have become good friends. A very caring exceptional company. "

Helen

"Our Mum is suffering from severe dementia and although we take on a lot of the care ourselves, we needed some extra help in the afternoons. The care from SHS has been outstanding. All the carers have been great with Mum, taking her for a drive, a cup of tea and a piece of cake when able which is her favourite thing to do.

We have received photo’s of Mum from the carers of Mum while she is out and she always looks so happy. She can’t wait to go with them! Teresa provided Mum with a photo book at Christmas – such a lovely thing to do and Mum treasures this. Tina has been great also - always there to help co-ordinate and offer support.

We really cannot fault the care received. We know Mum is in safe hands and Dad can have a rest while she is out. Highly recommended! Joanna, Karen and Nicola."
